Tired of waiting in line at the nearest Chinese takeout for some food that tastes like it came off an assembly line? Yeah, me too. Luckily for all of us, this recipe is super easy to make and tastes amazing!
I remember going to different Mongolian grills as a kid, and it quickly became one of my favorite places to go. So you can only imagine my excitement when I tired this recipe and found out how similar it tasted! The broccoli being cooked in the sauce makes it so flavorful, and the longer cook time makes the beef so tender. Topping it all off with some rice, and toasted sesame seeds which adds a lovely little crunch to the dish. Don't like rice? Add noodles instead!
Mongolian Broccoli and Beef
Everything you will need!
2 Pounds Flank Steak, Sliced Thinly
1 Head Of Broccoli, Separated
1 Bundle Green Onions, Chopped
1 Medium Onion, Sliced Thinly
1/4 Cup Cornstarch
1 Tablespoon Sesame Oil
2 Tablespoons Garlic
1 Tablespoon Ground Ginger
1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger, Grated
3/4 Cup Water
3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
1/2 Teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
Toasted Sesame Seeds
Lets get cooking!
If preparing this with a Dutch oven instead of a crockpot, the cook time will be shorter, around and hour and a half.. You can also start your sauce off by sautéing the onions and garlic in the sesame oil before adding the rest of your ingredients.
Take thinly sliced steak and place in a large zip lock with cornstarch, and shake until cornstarch evenly covers steak.
Place sesame oil, garlic, ginger, water, brown sugar, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes to crockpot.
Place steak and broccoli into crockpot and leave on high for 2 1/2 - 3 hours, or low for 4-5 hours.
Add green onions when time has finished and serve over rice with sesame seeds.
You can also switch out the broccoli for your other favorite veggies, or even a medley! We hope you enjoy this recipe, and if you do please reach out and let us know! We appreciate your feedback!
